Two Chief Engineers Convicted of Environmental & Obstruction Crimes

The US Dept. of Justice (US DOJ) issued a news release stating that two chief engineers of the vessel, T/V Green Sky, were convicted of falsifying documents in order to conceal illegal discharges of oily bilge waste and on obstruction charges.

The vessels operator, Aegean Shipping Management S.A. had previously pleaded guilty to a violation of the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships (APPS) and obstruction of justice.

T/V Green Sky generated excessive quantities of oily waste due to internal leaks. This was then pumped overboard, bypassing the oily water separator. The US Authorities were advised of this by three whistleblowers who then sought protection.
